As a child, it was never my goal to be the most popular or hang out with the “in” crowd. I stuck with the kids that were pretty average…middle of the road sort of kids. With our “group” there weren’t rigid rules about what you had to do to fit in…we were just friends.

Likewise, if there was someone that was a loner or rejected by other kids, I would usually become friends with them because I didn’t want them to be lonely. This is true still today, only now I understand that it was always part of God’s plan for me…but I just didn’t know it yet.

I thought that I sought out the shy, rejected ones because I was one too. While that may have been the case, the truth is that God was building, in me, character that would immitate His own. Jesus was a friend to the broken hearted, to the widow, to the prostitute, to the beggar, etc. He was a father to the fatherless. Those people mattered to Him, so they should matter to me too.

The ones who have seemingly “fallen through the cracks” are so valuable to Papa! All because you are quiet or shy, not the most popular, depressed, etc. doesn’t mean that you go unnoticed. GOD SEES YOU! He sees you because you are important! You have so much to add to the body of Christ. You ARE the body of Christ.

Matthew 5:1-12

The Sermon on the Mount

One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them.

The Beatitudes

“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him,[a]
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
God blesses those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
God blesses those who are humble,
for they will inherit the whole earth.
God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice,[b]
    for they will be satisfied.
God blesses those who are merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
God blesses those whose hearts are pure,
    for they will see God.
God blesses those who work for peace,
for they will be called the children of God.
10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

11 “God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. 12 Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.
