Several months ago, I felt a prompting to begin a “new” journey…a stirring to dig deeper into the scriptures on a more consistent basis, and not to do it alone, but with family and friends. The challenge was to spend time “journeying together through the scriptures”…praying, reading the same chapter (just one per day), and discussing it as a family. As we do this, we would all grow individually, as a family unit, and as a church…one family at a time. To date we have read through the books of Mark, Luke, Matthew, John, and now we are in Isaiah.

At times, being disciplined enough to set aside the time daily, has been a challenge. The desire is there, but it is so easy to let other things get in the way. When we are consistent, we all see the benefit, and when we are not, we feel the absence of blessing that comes with each time spent together. I would say that we have been more consistent than not.

The goal of doing this with other families, is to grow together as a church. With the way that the world is going, and things becoming more difficult for Christians worldwide, it is important to be prepared in season and out of season for whatever lies ahead. I feel that basking in the word, and uniting with other families…traveling if you will along the same road, at the same pace, will help us should the time come where gathering in the church building would be difficult. We already kind of experienced this during the pandemic.

Another goal that we have, is that once we finish a book of the Bible, to get together for supper or some sort of social time and discuss what the Lord has done in each of our families through the study.

We have all said how much fun this has been so far, and we love the growth that we are experiencing.
