So, the title to this page probably leaves some people scratching their heads, but I promise that if you read on, you’ll understand what I mean and probably agree with me.
Did you ever had a time, as a kid, when you did something wrong, knew you were wrong, knew that the punishment for your offense would be pretty harsh/painful/and justified, BUT instead received a gentle answer of disappointment from the adult in charge of you? Whether it was a teacher, parent, grandparent, or neighbor, the soft answer seemed way more painful than a good ol’ fashioned whipping would have been.
Scripture says that a soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
Do you know that even now, as a full grown adult, mercy and forgiveness can STILL be just as hard to reckon with as when we were little? Papa God is that parent that loves you so very much and the one that you can go to with absolutely ANYTHING that you’ve done wrong or that you’re ashamed of and He will forgive you? He already did…on the cross. When you come to Him with a repentant heart, He longs to forgive you…He loves you!
